Default Oil Filter..........Hand Tight?

I have always read about putting on the new oil filter hand tight . Is that really enough? Ive never had a problem but I always wonder if that is enough.

That's what I do. I never have to use a tool to get it off..and it does not leak.

Yes. I take a microfiber towel and tighten it as hard as I can. I also put oil on the ring before I put it on.

I have heard of guys using the oil filter wrench and giving another 1/4 turn. Too Much?

I do hand-tight plus an additional 1/8 to 1/4 turn with the wrench. In30+ years of doing my own oil changes, I had a hand-tightened-only filter come loose on me ONCE. That's all it took for me to gotighter with a wrench.
