Give it a day or two. There is a slosh module so that while driving around the needle doesn't go up and down when you turn, stop or accell. Leaving the key on will not let it reset right away. A couple drive cylces and it should be fine.

Did you try pushing Reset? Maybe try disconnecting the carbattery for a while......it may reset.

Or you could take it back to the dealer.

Not to still post but I think its funny that ford gives you a hand, a miles to empty readout, and then when you get below 9 miles to empty the entire gas gauge turns red. And I can't regularly fill my tank at all stations, and rarely my hand floats. Not bitching I just thought that was ironic because just a few nights ago I noticed that the entire gauge turned red, once it hit 9 miles to empty, as I was trying to make it to a station that I can fill up without problems. (btw I still traveled about 3 miles while it read 0 miles to empty) I really wanted to know if it would do something else after it hit 0!lol!

I've gone 20 miles more after hitting "0 miles" left. When I do hit0 miles, I know I have 1 gallon left. I made the mistake of racing while at 0 miles left, andmy car started dying on me at 4k rpm in 2nd gear. I still won but it was pretty damn imbarrassing. Ever since then, I never get anywhere near empty.

This is also not good for your fuel pump. Remember the fuel keeps it cool!

Really, I got down to 7 miles to empty and it never turned red. I don't do that anymore. When it hits a quarter of a tank I fill up
