Giving up on shifter balls.[UPDATED]
I am so frustrated with trying to find the right shifter ball to go with my new Steeda Tri-Ax shifter!!!
Here's the chronology:
1. Stock shift **** is threaded 12mm x 1.25mm, but the tri-ax stick is 12mm x 1.75 . Oops on Steeda's part!
2. Ordered this shift **** (79-04 model since they are threaded 12mm x 1.75mm) http://www.shop.hms-store.com/produc...;categoryId=22 , but when I received it, I was shocked to see its size. It is a 2 inch diameter melon! It's too big! Yes, it is threaded correctly, but when I shift, my hand feels as if it does not have a firm grasp of the ball, and it feels like I am rolling the ball instead of pushing the stick. I was assuming the ball would be the same size as my old Hurst ball (from my old comp plus shifter....threaded differently, so it won't work). Frustration mounting at this point.
3. Ordered a Hurst Classic white shifter ball threaded in 12mm x 1.75 mm from Jegs. According to Jegs website, a Hurst Classic ball is 1.75 inch in diameter, so I thought I was getting what I wanted. I even went to Home Depot and bought a 3/8 inch chrome pipe section and some washers so I could make a chrome spacer and a shifter boot retainer. Less than an hour ago the FedEx guy delivered my Jegs box. It included a Jegs hat, a Jegs magazine, and a very nice-looking 2 inch diameter ball!!!!! I instantly became angry.
I have been driving around for two or three weeks just using the tri-ax stick threads as a handle, waited two shipping periods, and have been disappointed three times. I called Jegs and told them of their website's error. They guy in tech support basically just agreed with me...."Yeah, you're right...uhhh...it's a 2.25 inch ball......some of them are and some of them are 1.75 inch. We don't have a 1.75 inch ball that will fit your threads."
I hung up and immediately went to Steeda's website and ordered this shift **** http://www.steeda.com/products/steed...hift_knobs.php and paid the extra $5 to get it here in two days.
The bright side is I shouldn't have to fashion my own shift boot retainer.....knock on wood. Watch it come in as just a screw on **** with no retainer. That would be perfect.
So.....anyone want to buy a white Hurst shifter ball (#163 0014 on Jegs site) or a black shifter ball with a little pony on the back?

had a similar problem w/ my pro 5.0. the stock **** didnt fit, and the pistol grip handle i ordered w/ the shifter didnt fit either. I was also driving around for a couple days shifting w/ a bolt and a microfiber towel over it. so i went to a local performance parts shop, talked to a guy in there and picked out a hurst t-handle and went outside to see how it fit. it fit perfect, better than the pistol grip that i ordered. the shop must have had at least 20 shifter ***** all diff types and sizes. i guess some mods just are more difficult to get just how you want it.
The problem is aftermarket companies and their lack of correct information. I don't live anywhere near a performance shop, so I have to order my stuff.
Why not have a custom shift **** made just for you? Something no one else has. This guy can put all sorts of things in the shift ***** and can make the **** different shapes, colors, sizes and threads.

Everybody on this forum loves to bust on the Hurst. So....

Update: I placed my order for the Steeda shift **** on Wednesday afternoon, and like I said, I paid an extra $5 for FedEx two-day air (about $15 total). Guess what! It won't be in until Monday. So I'm going to have to wait about 5 days anyway. I guess God's teaching teaching me a lesson in patience.

Bruce does great work.
He helped me with my NFL themed billiard ball *****.
He also has an adapter to hold the boot up (which I guinea pig'd for him until we got it right).
