New Hurst Knob
I use to have the white ball and mine was always white ... never had a problem with it... the black one looks way better anyway -- I'm sure in a week you'll be on here saying that your black **** is now white and sticky ... we'll all know what you're doing then [:-] [sm=icon_rofl.gif]
I'm not having any problems with it being "soft and sticky" either. I did purchase a black ball just for the heck of it. Arrived the other day but I haven't had a chance to put it on. I got it from Pace Performance. It was on backorder, so I had to wait a bit, but it was the cheapest I could find. The Hurst part number that fits is #163 0125
I tried windex, water, all kindsa stuff (and it was soft when I got it) and it still collected dirt like no other. Its so soft that I can press it with my thumb really hard and it leaves a fingerprint in it for about 10 seconds before it gels back to normal, and if I dig my fingernail in it it takes a chunk outa it (as you can see in the one pic).
Got the black one from ebay cost 30 bucks but I like it, got another nascar 50th aniversary one commin too just incase this one weirds out on me too but its very hard its like glass so I dont think I will have the problem.

i have that exact black ****. the only thing that gets nasty is in between the lettering. Unless you wash your hands everytime you drive your going to get that "gunk" from your hands filling upthe letters/numbers.
I just pulled the trigger on the black hurst sidewinder shift ball with just the hurst logo on top. I'm going to use the button for my line locks. The button I use for the line locks now is a toggle switch, so I will convert that to an "arming" switch and run the hurst switch in the middle of the hot line since it is a normally open switch. Should be a nice setup. I'll post pics when I'm done.
