Breaking in Gears
My car was finished today, had 4.10s installed [sm=badbadbad.gif]
What is the break in period for gears, I think I heard somewhere. Just drive around the block, let cool, then do it again, then they are good to go. Is that how it goes?

RE: Breaking in Gears
I have found there to be wildly different opinions on this. I had FRPPs installed by CJ Pony Parts (who do lots of them). They told me no breakin required and no change of fluid required in near future. I have seen others post that you should break in easy for 500 miles and also change fluids at that point. Go figure.
Applying a little logic - cars come from factory with new gears. There is no stated break in for them nor requirement to change fluids at 500-1000 miles. So...why would it be required for a replacement? I don't know, but I trust my installers.

Opinions will vary greatly on this .. I do a few heating and cooling cycles and change the fluid at 500 miles. If you've ever changed the fluid with new gears on a differential cover thats got magnets, you'll want to do it again.

How much did you pay total if I may ask?
Because I live an hour away from there and I've been looking for a good installer.

My mechanic said to go through 2 or 3 heat cycles (if that) and then not to worry about it.

I know when I had the 3.73s done under warranty on my 04, I never went back for the fluid change. Was never told to either. i'm just gonna do the heat cycles and leave it at that.

How much did they charge you for the install? And did you buy the parts form them?
