Frickin piece of crap shaker 500 killed
I bought a new and bigger battery a while back because after 2 visits to the dealership about the radioand my dead battery problemnot being solved. At least by them. Sometimes when you leave the radio onwhen shutting off the car it will ....stay on.. so to speak. and kills the battery in a few days. Ichecked it with an amp meter several times and made it dissapear by pulling the fuse. Documented this and told dealer. they have had it twice and said the way they have to check it it is fine.
Well my son drives the Stang last fri and..well leaves the radio on.at shut down. pulls out thekey and comes inside..well this weekend I try and start her up and..dead as a door ****.... What do I have to do to make them understand its the shaker 500 F...n up?.....Any ideas on a new system?

I know a guy locally with a 10" Fosgate in a box for $50. buy a cheap amp
Honestly, you're better off ditching the shaker and replacing it with just about anything else (except another Shaker 500)

Don't quite know how that's going to stop the Shaker head unit from draining power [&:]

VA, are you saying that after shutdown and opening the door, the stereo is remaining on? How many times have you been in for this same issue and have you spoken to the Service Manager himself? The reason I ask is that it sounds as if your advisor is just blowing you off each time or he has a lazy tech working for him. I am not a Ford tech but the vehicles I deal with on a daily basis work off of control modules (small microprocessor computer controls). If I were to have had this in our shop I would have started with the obvious as Iwould hopethey did, which is to turn the vehicle on, turn on the stereo, turn the vehicle off, pull out the key, open the door and see if the stereo shuts off. Im guessing that at the time it was at the shop, it didnt act up. Typical electronics. But you have obviously returned several times for the same issue and they have done nothing to try to fix the issue or find the source of the drain. This is an issue they should have found at the very least during the 2nd visit. The stereo should be shutting off as soon as the door is opening. They could have tried during the first visit to test the door switch. If the Mustang runs off of modules, like the vehicles I deal with, it sounds like it is not seeing a signal from the door switch and continuing to run the stereo. If you notice the stereo staying onagain as you exit the drivers side, leave the drivers door open, and then open the passengers side door to see if it shuts off. If it shuts off, this would tell me that it is the door switch circuit, if it is still staying on, I would say it is in the unit and should have been replaced. Like I said, I am not a Ford tech and dont have access to the wiring diagrams or I would try to help you diag through this post. If anyone else reading this has any tech experience, lets help VA with figuring out how to fix this before offering advice on systems. I do realize that he asked about good aftermarket systems, but with the electronics in newer vehicles now, a new system will never fix a battery drain issue if it is not the stock head causing the problem.
BTW Dex, that little redhead can 'Pressure' me into anything anyday!

I've heard a lot of complaining about Shaker stereos. What exactly is the problem with them? Is the sound quality bad? Is the system underpowered?(not loud enough?) Or is it simply shoddy and cheap component construction?
