Default Convince Me?!

Hello everybody,

Although I have never been a fan of the past 2 generations of mustangs, the 2005 has grown on me considerably. My current
ride is an enthusiast model 350Z and before I owned an S2000. The Z is great for its low end grunt, great handling, and quick (def not fast) acceleration while the s2000 was a crisp high revving sunny day cruiser. Although it may be torqueless, above 6k RPMS it's like a big turbo kicking in and the habdling is also very good. I have read numerous reviews of the 05' stangs and all of the reviews praised the mustang and few offered little criticism especially for the price. I would greatly appreciate any feedback from 05' stang owners, good and bad. I remember even one member on here owned both a Z and a mustang. In addition to any personal reviews I have a few quick questions:

(1. I heard the reason for the Mustang's better 0-60 and 1/4 mile times despite having "only" 13 more hp than the Z and being a couple hundred pounds heavier is due to the Hp and Tq figures are underrated much like the 03' cobra's 390hp and 390tq (at rear wheels instead of flywheel). Is this true?

(2. Have their been a lot of warranty / maintenance issues with the 05's? It's understandable with first year cars but has there been anything egregious. $150,000 Ford GTs being recalled due to faulty control arms (serious problem) is unacceptable and I want to know the fit and finish of the new stang is atleast decent. The 03' 350Z afterall had serious tire feathering issues and window motors crapping out.

(3. I have heard rumors of rediculous dealer markups. Is this still a concern or for the most part are dealers starting to return to seeling at MRSP?

(4. Ford boasts about the shaker 500 and 1000 stereo system. How quality is the stereo?

Thank you for any feedback. The new mustang truly captures the feel of past muscle cars and I look forward to test driving one.

Default RE: Convince Me?!

Welcome to the forums !! I am really enjoying my 05 GT, stick. I was looking at several other 04/05 cars in this preformance range, including the 350Z, and S2000. I also was negociating on the 05 C6 Vette.

When , I finally got a dealer here to honor my X-Plan discount, MSRP $26650.00, X-Plan $24750.00. I just couldn't see going the extra $$, for all the other choices. All I saw were $10K-$25K, more than the $25K I paid for the Pony.

Sure, the interest from others will decline, as more GT's hit the street. But, it is a lot of car for the $$. You should drive one to feel the low end torque, that makes these cars so fun. I figure, I will enjoy her for awahile, then decide to mod. or move up in hp, and cost, in another car.

Drive one, and see what you think. I didn't mention it above, but for a $25K car, it handles really well, and the ride is decent. I would say more, but , the sun is out, and I am hitting the highway in mine today. Got 1150 miles on her.
