Default urist stole my turbo/supercharger idea!!

LOLZ!!!1!!11 6 months ago i started a thread in here asking if ou could run a turbo charger into a supercharger to make more power, you all said NO! well, john urist said yes! i just got an issue of mustangs & fast fords and it has his prototype turbo running into a cobra supercharger in it. so im thinkin i really have to buy the saleen supercharger now because it retains my front mounted throttle body. that way later on down the road i can get a built block, a turbo kit, and get a custom tune to make huge powerz!!!

This stuff isn't new as diesels have been doing it since the 60's. Its just new or at least rare to gas autos.

Having a two stage compression system, with an intercooler between stages is more efficient then one big single stage.
Should work out well for anyone looking to boost their Cobra without removing stock sc.
I should have bought a Termi.............

Its called Compound Supercharging (Contrary to common usage Turbocharging is Supercharging).
As stated Hellion already has a Compound Kit available for the Terminator.
However usually on street engines you are limited by fuel octane, compression, and engine strength.
That means the complications usually out weigh the gains unless the engine is already Supercharged.
Then sometimes compounding can make more sense than starting from scratch.

In a race engine with 116 Octane, 7.0:1 Compression, and semiunlimited parts budget it starts to make sense.
It can be hard to make 60 psi boost at 5000 rpm withoutto much effieciency loss at 8000 rpmunless compounding
is used.

It's not common because of a few factors:
1) Very expensive to custom fabricate
2) Complex to engineer
3) Difficult to tune
4) Minimal benefits over simply using one or the other

You will get a much better torque curve especially down low, and slightly better efficiency when designed correctly, but once the turbo spools, the supercharger does little other than get in the way of the compressed air.

I am a much bigger fan of a two-stage biturbo design utilizing a small turbo and a larger turbo in series:

Back in WWII compounding was used on Allison V-12 aircraft engines, Notably the Bell P-63 Airacobra.

But for them it wasnt for horsepower, it was to gain compressed air so that the plane could fly at a higher altitude where the air was thin

indeed, after seeing the 1000+ hp and torque numbers i am beginning to think i should have gotten that awesome red termi i had a chance to buy instead of my gt.
