MPG gauge on the information center
Not the MPG calculator that gives you running MPG. I'm talking about the one that says MPG on the left and has a bar graph, and supposedly gives you instantaneous "MPG". It acts like one of the old economy meters that were just giving you a reading of vacuum. Big vacuum means not much fuel is being used, and less vacuum means more fuel is being used.
Is this what the MPG indication does? Or is it actually caluculating instantaneous MPG from speed and fuel consumption?
Does anyone find this actually useful? If it's just vacuum, then it's not a very good indication of fuel economy.

It also doesn't seem to be that "instantaneous" to me. There is a lag between a throttle movement and the guages reaction. If you use it to drive and keep 4+ marks on it, you will be getting your best mileage.

It's useless, and I'm not sure what the reading is based on. But you know when you are pressing the gas down and when you are just drifting along. It's really just a lighted display of that.

Its a waste, I never use it. In fact mine is usually blank most of the time, unless it says 50 miles to empty.....49........48.....

Now thats funny!!
Does anyone know what each bar on the graph corresponds to with respect to fuel economy? I drive economically, I think, and much of it is highway driving...I can't get more than 16.5 mpg average on the average mpg gauge. Much less than claimed by Ford.
