Default Windshield chips

So this morning i decided to go out into the desert whrere there are few cars and go for a nice quiet sunday morning cruise. There were very few cars on the road so i opened it up a little and saw a Charger coming the other way, as we passed, a rock was thrown up and smacked my windshield. Luckily, no crack, or start, just a nice chip. Its right in the middle of my line of sight, so i cant decide wheter to try and fix it myself or leave it for now. Has anyone tried the "do-it-yourself" windsheild repair kits? If so, do they work or am i risking making it worse? Should i just wait and have it professionally done? thanks

I don't know about your state but in FL, you can have it replaced for free by your Insurance company.
Check that out first... Then try ti fix it yourself.
It has to bea perfect fix, as this will always be in your vision.

Good luck with that.

Most insurance companies will repair it for free. They would rather do that than pay to replace the windshield.

thanks, will check with the ins company. if not I think the $40 is well worth not taking the chance of messing it up even more.

that definitely sucks though. at least it wasn't a bigger one that just shot right through the entire windshield. that would just suck

not to jack your thread, but is it possible to fix a scratched window like they can fix chips?..for just as cheap?, my driver side window has a 5" scratch from something that was caught in the door edge when i put it down

Can they actually make a windshield chip disappear? Thought they only fill it with silicone or something to prevent future cracking but the chip will still be visible.

My Conversion Van had a rock hit the windshield and put a nice chip in it thanks to a dump-truck flying down the Interstate. I took it to a professional glass place and they injected with some kind of liquid. They said it was to prevent the chip from spreading. You can still see it, but not as bad as it was.
