Default Gear whine? or perhaps something else?

so the gears are broken in and i decided to try them out...wow... heres the thing...after a bit i started to notice a whiney sound that i only hear at about 60 mph or higher...not only that. bit when I release the clutch it goes away. at first, I thought it would be the infamous gear whine that everyone talks about, but when the clutch is released, I think (not positive) the driveshaft (gears and axle) keep spinning. Earlier this month i noticed a sqeaky noise when I first turned on my car and when i went over bumps slowly, but i disregarded it and figured if i put a lil grease on it it would be fine (if i could find it). (about 40,000 miles). I assumed it was that, but this is more of a whine. so basically, in short, any ideas?

thanks

I had 3.73's installed and my car is an automatic. When Im cruising along roughly at 50mph or higher, my rear whines also. When I let my foot off the gas, it goes away. Sounds like we have the samething going on.

IMO, the whine isnt normal. Somethings not entirely right. I dont have a solution, just wanted to let you know that your not alone.

Let us know if you figure it out. I think Im gonna just keep driving until something breaks.

If it is in fact Gear Whine, have your installer check it out. I've had two Gear changes done at a Mustang Shop, and never had a Gear noise issue. Also, don't confuse a whining sound from your Transmission as Gear Whine, the Noise will clearly be comming from the Back of the Car.

It sounds like the same problem I had for 2 years with my 3.73's. It's a high pitched bearing type noise only occuring on the drive side of the gear, and only at or above a certain speed. Goes away immediately when you get off the throttle. Finally fixed my problem last week, what a difference! Look here... https://mustangforums.com/m_4330627/tm.htm

As long as it doesn't whine during every MPH than it's normal. It doesn't do ANY harm. My gears have an extremely, extremely faint whine when I let go of the gas at 60MPH (only a person with OCDs can hear it). My 1987 Monte Carlo SS with 3.73s from the FACTORY did the same exact thing. Don't sweat it dude.

I saw them install everything in person andwitnessed them thoroughly check everything 1000 times with machines, toolsand all that sh*t. I also had my gear oil changed at 500 miles and I did not beat on the car before the 500 mile break-in period.

Don't believe EVERYTHING you read online unless you experience it for yourself. Just my opinion of course...[&:]

What you're talking about and the OP are 2 different things it sounds.. Noise when you let off the gas, or on the coast side of the gear, or a wowowow sound is gear noise. What the OP is talking about is either noise in the diff, bearings, or both. The TSB on this replaces ALL the bearings including the diff bearings. Those who have had it done, along with a new set of gears, reported the noise went away only to come back in about 2,000 miles. This further indicates a bearing issue. I'm hoping mine will never come back. Another benefit I've noticed from the new diff is no more clunking at all shifting from park to reverse or drive. Entire driveline is much 'tighter'.
