Default BBK CAI

Last week I bought a BBK CAI. I installed same day and was satisfied with it. They claim it does not require a tune. Last night I am on they way to my cousins B day party, when I notice the service engine light on. So i have been bitten by the bug you must have a tuner. Even though BBK claims you do not need a tune they are not telling the truth. I am going to put on there special note from there instructions.

SPECIAL NOTE
Due to the increased airflow and performance gains associated with this product, a slight detonation or lean condition may occur if used with low octane fuels (Regular).
If this happens we recommned switching to a fuel with a higher octane rating
(Premium, or Super).
In addition , if you are installing this product on a vehicle that has been previously
modified or has a "tune" other than stock, you may find it necessary to have the tune
adjusted or modified to accomdate for the increase in airflow that this product provides.

The Airaid CAI, is one that I know for sure can be used without a tune, as long as you leave the MVT tube in it. It is a quality Item,that I would recommend. But once you get it and feel the improvement...you'll want more. That's where the Tune comes in, and the Real Fun starts.

I have a BBK CAI w/out a tune. Never had a problem. Had it for over 5 months. I use 93 octane.

What octane gasoline are you using?
Do you have any other mods?
Did you change the stocl tune?

you are using 93 octane on the stock tune?....that willl just lead to
an incomplete combustion of fuel leaving a film on the cylinder
walls=get a tune for it

The BBK does require a tune. Any intake that is larger in diameter than the stock intake will require a tune. By larger in diameter I mean the area that the MAF sensor inserts into.

You may not be having a problem with the BBK and no tune, but you SHOULD have a tune... Besides, who DOESN'T want a tune???
