Are they crazy???
I called my local Goodyear shop to price some Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires in 255/45/18. The guy told me they were available for $199 per tire andthat theregular price was $300. I almost asked him if he was crazy. I told him he was looking at the wrong tire because those tires are around $150 online. He told me I had found a good deal. I immediately ordered 4 of them from www.onlinetires.com The shipping charges made the price be $160 per tire.
Any Goodyear experts out there? Was his price standard?

$200/tire is not a bad deal if that was out the door with mounting and balancing. You'll still have to somehow fit the 4 tires in your stang and get them to a tire place to get them mounted and balanced. If it was $15+tax/ per tire to do this then your cost is now over $175/tire and you had to wait to get them from UPS.
Sometimes people don't look at the big picture. There's a price for convenience, and to have them all ordered and done by a Goodyear dealer it worth the convenience. Also, give the shop a break. The shop has to run and running a shop costs money, not just in employess but overhead such as lights, phones, garbage disposal, taxes, workers comp, etc. Also, what if there is a problem with one of the tires? What if one of the tires won't balance correctly or there is a defect? Now what do you do? Now you have the hassle of arguing with the online vendor to get them to replace it and you'll likely have to ship it back. All this b/c of $20? not worth it IMO.

The "regular" price was probably what Goodyear lists them for MSRP. And like cars, we all know you can buy them for less than list price. Buying online from Tirerack, discount tire, etc is always cheaper. They dont have the same type of overhead that regular tire and repair shops have.
Like someone else mentioned, buying from a shop near you will eliminate the need for downtime, should a tire develop a defect. It will be taken care of.
I own a shop, and occasionally hear from the real tightwads about how they can go down to the parts store and buy whatever it is they need for less money. "Cool! Do it! I will not warranty it, if it fails." That usually shuts them up or they go buy it themselves and bring it to me. No other shop in my town will install parts that a customer provides. ALL shops make money on parts. Fact of life.
