...why would anyone want paddle shifters? its ricey and our mustangs are supposed to look retro, not futuristic
Theres a huge gap between ricer stuff and good technology. Paddle shifters has NOTHING to do with rice.

There's a great story about one install for racing here:
http://www.motortrend.com/features/m...ty/index5.html

And here's a more in-depth story about how manual transmissions are going to be put on the Endangered Species List!

The main purpose of an aftermarket shifter is decrease the time between shifts......shorter throw. Paddle shifters, IMHO, would reduse the shift time more than MGW, Hurst, Roush, etc, shifters. Plus, like mentioned above, both hands are controlling the steering wheel.

Like Revleftymentioned....How is a Lambo ricey?

Agreed. My friend's Corvette has these. Lots of fun.

In my book, the "old school muscle" argument only applies to the character of the car (low cost, sound, power, etc.) and exterior styling.

This car screams for an automatic that can easily be shifted. Maybe we'll see something like it from the factory for the 2010 refresh.
