What if you stopped and helped it the owner came by and saw what was happening, andbecame so angry that they attacked you. You then would end up defending yourself and accidently killing the dog owner. Then you'd be in jail for manslaughter for 3 years and your entire life would be ruined and a dog as well as their owner would be dead. Several familes would be shattered for years to come. Your life would never rebound completely.

So dont feel bad you didnt stop! Who knows how bad this could've gotten.

 

Ask if your insurance covers the dog.

Well I say sucks for the dog owner but it was their fault. I assume you weren't driving through some back yards. What was their dog doing in the street? Again I'm assuming it wasn't on the leash when you mashed it. I would have stopped tried to help the dog and do what I could to save it, pulled the name off the tag, called the owner tell them I hit their dog (Hopefully your city or municipality has a leash law), tell them where their dog is and then told them they can buy me a new bumper or I will call the cops and my lawyer. If it would have been a cow or a horse your car would have been totaled and yes the owner of the animal is liable. We had a cow out on the road one time and they tried to sue us for everything when they hit it. Long story we won, Man, Woman, alone in a truck, back country road, straight and flat, 12pm in a clear sunny day and one cow standing in the middle of the road. She busted her nose on the CB console, you do the math.

Didn't apply if you hit a cat!
