the only way to learn is to do it in real life, knowing the concept will help but i have met many people who say they knew how to work a manual just to embarass themselves and stall in the parking lot.

You just get into it and drive it!

Reving to high? upshift
Not enough power? downshift

Stalls when taking off? More fuel
Squeels tires? Less Fuel

Whats to learn?

I like the heel-toe video on www.hookedondriving.com because it shows 1)my preferred way and 2)it shows it on an s197!
