I run my tank until the gas light stays on for like 2 days, but when I fill up, it only takes 13.5 gallons with being topped off???


I know we have a reserve, but, is my gas guage really that off??

 

the light comes on around 50 to go +1 gallon after that so 13.5 sounds right

I don't purposely run it dry because of all the sediments, but I get gas every 2 weeks and fill it all the way up.. And it never takes more than 14 gallons

 

its a 16 gallon tank, you have 1 gallon once it gets to the 0 to go mark....if you get about 18-20 mpg and dont run it to E anyway.....im lost at the point you are trying to make

 

My point is that I can run the car until the gas light comes on, put tons of more miles on it, and think that I am about to run out of gas completely, but when I fill the tank, It can only take 14 gallons...

Can my gas guage be off that badly?

The tank is 15.7 gallons with a one gallon reserve. The most I have ever put in is 14.9 gallons...not a smart idea [&:]

 

I heard that it was bad to run it down that low....something to the effect that the fuel pump has to work more....I could be wrong. I always fill up when I have about 1/4 of a tank...unless I am lazy and do not feel like getting out of the car to pump gas at that time
