I have 20's and very happy with the performance of my car and it personal preference on which to buy! If you can drive a stang that has 20's and one with 18's to get a feel for what you may want to go with! J
...Yeah, I bet you're happy with that awesome new "intake" there mr. whipple!

06saleen3v -- are the saleen 20's light weight or about average for 20's?? love the look, but i also love the stock 17" bullits for their light weight factor.
The difference in weight for these wheels doesn not matter at all unless you are a die hard track fanatic. The 20's make me car look soooo much neater and I will sacrafice the very small loss of speed off the line for them. From a roll, I don't think it would even be possible to feel much of a difference at all

I have had 18's & 20's on mine and personally like the 20's better -- there is a slight loss in performance but nothing that you're really going to notice at all ... you'll see the loss on a dyno though[&:]

20s are for those that like the ghetto or gangsta look on their Stang. Big, flashy and lots of rim but very little tire profile. They will definately hurt performance and if you are a drag racer they are definately a very bad choice as they add a lot of unsprung rotational weight. If you like the look go with the 20s. If you really like the look go for some 22s.
If you want to make your car as fast as possible, either stay with the 17 inch rims or go with 18 inch rims. If you really want to race go buy some lightweight 15" Bogart rims. These smaller 17"-18" rimswill reduce rotational weight by as much as 15-25 pounds per tire/rim compared to running 20 inch rims. That is somehwere around 100 pounds of added rotational weight.
I don't care who thewheel maker is; Shelby, American Racing or Saleen. The fact is 20s are a different look that some like and some don't. In fact I personally don't care for Saleen's body kits either. I think it takes away from the classic look of the Mustang and makes it more Euro looking, but everyone has different tastes.

15-25 lbs per tire/rim? What 17"-18" rims are you talking about?I looked on tirerack.com and the difference between 17" and 20" tires is about 1-2 lbs. Some 20" tires are actually 2 lbs lighter that the same tire in18". The range I saw when comparing kumo and BFG's was 27lbs-29lbs. I have the shelby razors in 20 that weight 29.5 lbs. When doing the math you would have to purchase a 6.5lbs-16.5lbs wheel toequal your fuzzy math of 15lbs-25lbs.

It's not the total weight of the rim that plays the major factor for performance. It's where the weight is located. The farther to the outside of the rim that the weight is located, the worse for performance it will cause (more moment of inertia to overcome when starting and stop when braking).20" rims will generally have more weight located farther away from the rotating point of the wheel creating more moment of inertia.

Total weight differenceincluding tires and rim.
Fuzzy math? Not quite, I have a scale. I have weighed the stockers and some aftermarket rims of various sizes right at the dragstrip while we were changing them.
I am not looking at some website basing my opinion - I weighed them myself.
Depending on rim width and tire size that is what I saw.

I understand and agree with everytingin your post. I was only commenting on zkiller stating that 20" will weight 15 to 25lbs more per wheel tire combo. The AR Razors specs on tirerack are: 18" 25.5 lbsand 20" 29lbs adding the 1lbs for the difference in tires it comes out to4.5 lbs.

I knew you were only making a rebuttal to zkiller's statement. My comment was not directed towards you, sorry for the midunderstanding. I was just simply making making a general statement about the effect of weight of wheels on performance.

I have a scale to and my AR's where 29.5 lbs. I forgot what my tireswere but I trust tirerack to be close within a 1lbs since they have a scale and there description was only a 1/2 lbs offfrom what my scale showed for the rim. I may have missed it in your previous post but i couldnt findyour statment "Depending on rim width and tire size that is what I saw" If your comparing different
"rim width and tire size" I can see how this could. Comparing 275/35-20" on a 20X10 to 245/55-17" on a 17"x7 isnt fare.
