back fireing
ok... i think a coil pack is on its way out because about 75% of the car seems to... i dont know how to word it other then. limp. so the other day i unplugged the coil packs 1 at a time and found that its the2nd cylindercoil pack. so i didnt think it could cause any big problems and im waiting on taking it to ford instead of right in like i originally planed because i just got a few side jobs... anyway.... about 5-6 days ago it started to back fire randomly.. i mean its a full blown back fire... loud as hell and horribly embarassing. well..i didnt know a bad coil pack could do that... you can feel when the coil pack is working since the car has a sudden boost of power, and it dosentt back fire then. it seems to be backfiring when the coil pack isnt fireing... any ideas on what to do other then get it onto ford asap? or could something have gone bad because of the coil pack.

You know, it just hit me[&:]...
I believe they replaced the radiator support on that car of yours... Witch involves welding.
When you weld on cars, you disconnect the battery for sure and some electronics. Electronic components don't do good with hight amperage[8D]. Ouch! Not cool.
Do you know for sure if that battery was ever disconnected?
I have seen this happen too many times.
By the way, me likey the new front.

Disconnecting or running with a dead plug pack is only going to wash your cylinder with unburnt petrol - BAD ! The back firing is when the unburnt fuel builds up enough to weep into the exhaust and get ignited by the other cylinders exhaust pulses, also bad for the sensors and mufflers.
Side jobs or no side jobs, you need to get that off the road ASAP.

Morning Marcus...
I miss the old carburetor and distributor (no points though) sometimes.
You would think that the days of backfiring are gone.
Hope he finds a solution quick. He hasn't reallyenjoyed that car since August![8D]

RE: back fireing
On a Grand National I had, the coil pack went bad. When the car would reach about five pds of boost, the car would hesitate and then back fire out through the airfilter.
A bad coil pack on your car is what I would guess, too. Good luck!

It's not the best workaround BRENDEND, but you could pull the injector plug off the offending cylinder, it'll stop the fuel going in so no backfiring.
