Hey Verginastang, I didn't install mine myself but I have some pictures of the install if that helps:

Not sure I would go to all the trouble to mount them as the
pic above shows. Just put the ballasts on the inner fender wells
inside the engine compartment.
That way everything can be done from under the hood without
removing the front bumper. [:'(]
And they will be better protected in a front end crash situation.

I love the look of HIDs but wouldn't want to get popped for an aftermarket unit. I'm not against someone buying an aftermarket unit but you should know thatALL aftermarket HID conversions are not legal in50 states. So with that being said...I read somewhere on a HID seller's site that you should hide the ballast unit somewhere so in case you get pulled over and the officer asks to have a look. The engine compartment is not the best place to mount the ballast. A knowledgeable policeman would know it's an aftermarket add on.

07MustangGT_girl,

That is an excellent place to hide the ballast!

I also got the retro-solutions kit, I also mounted the ballast on the shock towers. I did drill into the towers and used the supplied screws. I did not bolt/screwed the relay down, just ziptie the excess wiring in a neat bundle on the passenger side of the fender. U are going to love it!! I did lower my light adjustment just alittle so as not to blind oncoming cars.

One eyed or anyone else...does the ballast really die and if so, how soon? I was getting ready to update but was thinking the 8000 which are a little more blue. has anyone tried the bulb replacements with a "charge of xenon gas inside" instead of the full swap out?

Every time I am ready to move ahead I read a post that makes me stop. Please share your HID experiences

thanks

Ok, so its all done... installed the ballasts just before the shock towers with Industrial Velcro (should hold up nice). I am beyond impressed with this kit... it installs very easy for someone with some automotive talent. It took me 2 hrs with my fathers help, and we were talking to two friends. I'm a novice, and he knows his way arounda car. It looks great.. I will post pics ASAP. My full recommendations.

Glad to hear you are enjoying it!

I have to say, there are very, very many aftermarket kits out there where the ballasts do die... alot, even before they come out of the box they are shipped in. These however, are not like those kits in any way, I give you my honest word on that. To compare to other kits that have a failure rate of 6-15% out of the box, our ballasts are effectively a 0% still to date. That is correct.. not one ballast has failed, and that is in use, out in the field.
That said, put them wherever you feel comfortable, I think it would be an extreme rarity if you need to access the ballast at all, they are rated 3500 hrs.

I used to be the same way. I finally went ahead and got the Retro-Solutions kit and I honestly tell you, I couldn't be happier. I'm glad I took the plunge. I'm sure cops have a lot more important things to do than check my headlights, like tasering 12 year old kids.

Dang, I removed the bumper to install the Roush one..and I promised never to remove that thing again. For me it was a pain...so I agree with some here to install elsewhere.
