longevity with a tune

RE: longevity with a tune
I had 130k on my last mustang and it ran just as good as the day I bought it. The ONLY thing I ever did was change oil every 5k and I changed plugs and wires at 115k. Car was like new when I sold it. Take care of it and it should take care of you.

I'm not going to disagree with you that perhaps I shouldn't buy Pontiacs.. That's why I have a Mustang instead of a GTO (well, that, and the GTO is butt-ugly). But the fact remains.. LOL
I have a friend who has a 2001 or 2 Civic (no, it's not all riced out, it's just his economy transportation). He has gone 10 and 20k between oil changes. The thing has >100k on it now, and it still runs like a top. Hows THAT for an engine?
The only engine Ford ever built that REALLY stood out in my mind in terms of longevity was the 300... MAN, was that an engine! You could put it under water, pull it back out, fill the intake with sand, all sorts of stuff. And *poof* - it would run. Replacing the intake manifold gasket on it sucked, but I guess you can't win em all, right?
EDIT: I wouldn't want that engine in my Mustang, just to clarify.. LOL

Since I've owned 5 Toyotas(4 of which I sold in good conditionwith each having over 175,000 miles and1 I'm driving now as my DD and tow vehicle with 139,000 miles) with NONE having had any engine or tranny work nor any other expensive repair required, Ihave confidence in the Toyota nameafter putting close to 1 million consecutive miles ontheir vehicles. I'm sure you can find the occasional domestic that can boast over 200,000 miles without needing any major work but I doubt you can find someone that can boast pushing 200,000 miles 5 cars in a row with thereliability and dependability thatI've had.
IMHO, you'll be lucky to get to 200,000 in the Stang without SOME major/expensive repair. But since I really LOVE my Stang, I hope (but doubt) that I'm wrong.

I think the biggest thing with the Mustangs won't be the quality of the engine but how hard people drive them. I have full confidence that non-abused ones will go beyond 200,000 miles without major repairs. I have a 1997 Ford Ranger with the 4.0L V6. It has 170,000 miles and doesn't use much oil at all, has never needed any major repairs and runs strong. The 5 speed auto has never been touched.

I was wondering how the automatics will hold up with the tuned aggressive shifting

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! If you have a tune, I think that the way you drive the car, coupled with American car maker's infamous build quality, will prevent you from seeing 200k LONG before running rich will have anything to do with it..

GOLD.
With the way things have been going with my stang, I feel the same way.
My volvo went 377k before i had to get rid of it.
Motor ran like a champ, but the electrical wiring was starting to go and I didnt feel like spending money and time on the main harness
