Default longevity with a tune

Hey has anyone thought about how an aftermarkert brent/bama tune will affect the longevity of our cars? Mine runs slightly rich, wont that lead to problems down the road? I change oil with mobil 1 and a fomoco filter every 3000 and run only 93 octane fuel from shell or bp. You guys think the tune will limit our chances of seeing 200,000 with our cars?

Slightly rich wont have any long term effect. It will only increase emissions of the stuff the tree huggers are trying to get rid of. Now, if your getting enough gas to wash down the cylinder walls, then yes, you would have a problem. So just enjoy the car and dont worry.

Just have to ask though, how do you know it is running slightly rich. I have a procharger, and my a/f gauge still fluctuates close to, meaning alternating from above to below 14.7. All the while cruising and idling. WOT though and it goes down to 11.2-11.7. The ECU will modulate injector pulse width using the O2 sensor information to keep your ratio around 14.7.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! If you have a tune, I think that the way you drive the car, coupled with American car maker's infamous build quality, will prevent you from seeing 200k LONG before running rich will have anything to do with it..

ie - my winter beater has 140k on it. It's on the second engine and third transmission.. It's a Pontiac, 3.8L, same engine they've been making for like 30 years. You'd think they'd have it right by now. But no.

Good luck with 200k.. I'm not going to hold my breath, and don't plan to have mine past 100k or so.. That gives me about another 7 years at my current rate, but more than likely closer to 10 or 12.. (I did 12k the first season, but it was a "new toy", so)

I disagree here.

Me too.

I got rid of my old '94 F-150 in 2004 when I bought my '04 F-150 and the '94 had 180+k on it. I gave it to my father to use as a work truck at his business and it now has over 220+k on it and it has had no major engine work at all. Some tranny work has been done to it a couple of times, but thats it.

Personally I have had 2 ford v8's go well over 200,000 miles and still ran great. Maybe you shouldn't buy pontiacs.

There is no reason you should try to reach 200,000.

Me three, there are plenty of domestic vehicles on the road with 200,000K + ...
