Default 2008 GT Check Engine Light

OK I traded in my 05 problematic V6 for a brand spankin new GT CONvertible. Had her for about 4 days now and already fueled up once using SHELL premium gas despite the BP recommendation by FORD. I drove home from work this evening and I noticed the CEL-check engine lightwas on. What the heck!? Brand new 2008 and I'm already dealing with this crap. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions as to what might be the cause. Is it something I should worry about? The dealership isn't open on SUnday, figures. My neighbor suggested filling her up with BP 87 octane and driving it for some time. Don't want to make matters worse but im eager to try and solve this. Any thoughts and input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

is your gas cap on, or did you top off or overfill the tank? it's probly not the shell gas, shell is pretty good and premium should be ok too. i think checker or someplace like that can check you OBD codes for free if you dont have a tuner, then you can find out exactly what's wrong.

yeaeh I figured id have to get the code but since i didn't notice the light till 1130pm I was really kinda stuck and thought maybe someone had experinced this. It's just rather bizarre since it's an 2008 with 100 miles on her and no mods. Yes I did check the gas cap, everything ok in that respect so I'm stumped guess ill have to find a place to check the code like autozone.

never fill it with the key on, kinda like listening to the radio or checking the gas gauge or such. this sometimes gives the computor a false indication. dont top off the tank cause the overflow tube will fill with fuel or fumes and sometimes give a false read, but mainly always turn your gas cap a good number of clicks when you install it. never had to do this years ago on older cars but i guess we are in a new era. good luck with it.

Something like that happened with my dad's Z06.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions I finally got her to Autozone and the code is P0442 with a list of possible triggers which included the gas cap as well as vacuum leak at engine, hose cracked nnot connected, and vent solenoid defective. They reset it and we tightened the gas cap. However, I have noticed a high pitch air s sound when I accelerate, Im wondering if this could be a vacuum leak. any thoughts?

You will get a whistle accelerating, it's air going into the airbox, that's normal. Gets much louder with a CAI, but even with the stock airbox, it's there.
