Replacing 5x7 speakers KEEPING STOCK HU
I am fed up with the crap spewing out of the stock paper cone 5x7's. Muddy mids, horrible separation and highs that really tire your ears out... and its been long enough :P
I AM KEEPING the stock head unit (SHAKER 500) ... I know, I know, as an audiophile and musician I will agree the head unit is horrible, the signal quality poor, and replacing it is a must for better sound. However, I just cannot right now, the car is still new, I like the cd changer , and there are other mods that are calling my name right now.
My question: What speakers would give me better sound quality as a simple drop in replacement. I been looking at Infinity reference 5x7's and also some Polk 5x7's and a very interesting product called the SL80 by boston acousitcs which is a component (plate) system that fits in the 6x8 opening.
Has anyone done this? Any reccomendations,?
I am adding a sub soon and want some drop in speakers to clean up the sound first.
ALSO on a side note, I get alot of rattles and creaks when music plays due to the bass output of the door subs, has any one encountered this and came up with a solution, im not sure dynamat \brownbread etc, will work.
Thanks in advance...

RE: Replacing 5x7 speakers KEEPING STOCK HU
I was thinking of the reference line... I had herd the kappas put out less sound because they use more powere where the reference's are designed for stock hu power.
I love kappa's and have herd then many times... Have you got them in your car?

No I don't think they are harsh, I really like them. I can't pm that file or email within MF[:@]. Pm me your email out of MF, and I will try to send that pdf.
