Decisions, decisions...
Argh...
I just got my W-2's in today, did the taxes, and it looks like I'll be getting back a fair chunk of change that will be split between move-in costs for a new place and some mods for my GT. I've got about $700 to play with on the mods, and I'm really waffling on what to do first - CAI/Tune, or do the gears? (I've got 3.31's in it right now, and was thinking of going to 3.73's - 4.10's are just a little too much for what I want, since I still use it as a DD and I drive it 75% of the time on freeways back & forth to work)
Hrmm...Any thoughts? I know a lot of people will probably chime in for intake/tune, but the gears have also been on my mind as something to knock out right from the start, esp. since I'm also thinking about a S/C when the warranty's gone.

RE: Decisions, decisions...
For me it would be the CAI and Tune, not because of the HP increase (which is nice but not overwhelming) but because of the improvement in throttle response. To me that was a big downer when I first got the car and the Tune elimiated it.

RE: Decisions, decisions...
I have the CAI/Tune and 4.10's. I'd do the CAI/Tune first. It really "wakes the car up".
4.10's with a manualtrans will equate to about 17-18 MPG...at least it has for me. I can get 20-ish, but only on long highway trips. That works for me, since the Stang is not my DD. I'd probably do 3.73's if I drove it more.
Just my 2 cents

well u are going to need a programmer before you do the 4.10's anyway. other wise ur speedo will be way off if im not mistaken. if u dont get a CAI at least get a programmer( i reccomend sct) you will need it for alot of stuff that you will want to do to the car. i think its probably the most important tool for the car.

I'd keep those gears since it's a DD. Your wallet will thank you. I love my 27 mpg.

BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT...
I also realized that I will most likely need the tuner when I do the gears so that my speedo isn't off any more than it is now (it reads 5mph higher than what I'm actually doing, so 70 mph on speedo = 65 mph actual), due to Dwisforme05's post. So, it looks like decision has been made, and I'll be contacting either Brenspeed or Bama for my CAI/Tune (and telling them that I have only the lame-o 91 octane gas out here).

Gears without tune are still fun! (Yes for a highway daily driver.) If you have a manual tranny, it's safe to get the gears done without reprogramming, your speedo will just be off 20% if you go from 3.31 to 4.10s. (Ask me how I know this!) It just worked out that I had new gears without a tune for a while, and it was still a blast.
I'd be nervous about doing the gears without reprogramming an auto tranny in these cars because the shift points will be off, possibly putting the clutches at risk, although some people don't seem that concerned about it.
Gidyup, how on earth did you ever get 27 mpg? That's impressive. With a manual, you can omit 1st gear around town if you're mileage conscious.
