Default Built in break in limit?

Does it exist a built in break in feature that limits the power you can get out of the engine?

I talked to a local performance guy today and that is what he says.
It's also supposed to have three stages, one at 1500 miles, one at 3000 miles and the last one at 5000 miles. Because of this he recommended me to not make any mods to the car before I have 5000 miles on it.
At this time I only have 1300 miles on it and I'm interested in putting on a CAI and reflash it.

He also said that the difference after passing the 'stages' would probably be noticeble. Anyone pass any of the stages that has noticed something?

What do you guys think?

There are some high end sports cars that have a program built into the computer to not allow the car to perform at its highest level after a certain number of miles. This sounds a lot like that.

I havn't heard anything about that but i hope it does, then these cars would be even faster than they already are.

Ok, so noone noticed a difference after passing any of the stages.

How about this?;

Can anyone say that there was definately NOT a difference in power after passing any (or all) of these stages?

Very curious!

No such thing as a "break-in" power limiter. But f*ck with your break-in on a new car, and you can have problems for the life of it. Most important is that your piston rings seat properly. IF they don't you'll have excessive oil consumption and subsequent insidious power-loss.
With Harley-Davidson's the break-in period is critical. Follow your instruction manual to the letter. Dump oil & filter @ 500 & 100 miles. Go with synthetic Mobil 1. Also go to synthetic gear oil in the transer case. First 1000/1500 miles gently run the car up and down to 60mph. No steady speeds. Gradually increase shift speeds. Do it all right, and your V8 will last 20 years.

I sure wouldn't be doin' any motor/computer mods until the warranty runs out. The FoMoCo will do anything to deny a claim and save $$$.

I have been driving mine hard since the start and the only thing that I have noticed is that now I'm getting better gas mileage. I have 6000 miles on the car and I'm averaging high 22 to 23 1/2 miles per gallon.

That's pretty good. I'm somewhere between 14 and 19, depending on how I drive it. That is mixed highway and city driving.

So far I've been getting about 18, that's mostly city driving. Taking a road trip this weekend, so I'll get a chance to check out the highway mileage.

I haven't passed any of those milestones yet, but I will soon hit 1500 so I'll try to notice if anything changes. I've been trying my best to keep with the 1000 mile break in period. I haven't used Cruise Control on the freeway, and I vary my speed constantly from 60 to 70, up and down, up and down. Hopefully that will break it in properly and I won't have any problems.

First to answer your question I have not heard of break in limits and I have done A LOT of research before purchasing this car.

I'm still just under 1500 miles... But I can tell you I am NOT being tender with my car so far. I had to pick it up about 1,000 miles away.

The only comment the dealer and many professionals said was don't maintain the same RPM for long periods of time. Other than that I drove it hard.

I burned rubber pulling out of the Ford dealer where I got it. I also burned rubber in front of every chevy and dodge dealer. When I crossed Canada I had 700 miles already so I did use cruise control for a bit at about 110 mph. This car drives too smooth... I'm having too much fun! LOL

The high RPM and hard driving created a small radiator leak so a different ford dealer fixed it - no charge - while I was on the road.

I'm adding a supercharger very soon so I figure drive it hard and get whatever breaks fixed while I still have the warranty.

Just what I did. I don't think taking it easy is bad... but I didn't go that route.
