Convertible Opinions

RE: Convertible Opinions
I love my brand new 2008 'vert! It has far fewer squeeks and rattles then my sister's 1994 model had. It is far quieter with the roof up than I was expecting. The only time I can tell it's a soft top is when passing a truck, and then only when they're on the throttle or using jake brakes. It is weathertight and has no drafts even at highway speeds.
If you're looking at BMW's and Jag's I'd highly recommend the Mercedes CLK convertible. I test drove 2005 CLK500's and CLK55's and would have bought one but just couldn't justify the cost. As it is I am very happy with my Mustang!

The design of the windows, where they pop down and bit, then forcefully push up into the middle of the rubber around the door is great. Keeps the car very quiet. I take mine on lots of back roads with potholes, railroad tracks, etc, and the car holds up great over these bumps. Very nice for the money.

I went with the coupe over the vert because I do a lot of long distance highway (400-1000 miles each way) and wanted to ensure a quiet ride. I can only assume the coupe is quieter but I think that's a logical assumption.

Prior to purchasing my GT vert, I had a V6 coupe and several V6 verts as rentals for work. I must say, barring inclement weather or excessive speed, they seemed to be equally quiet to me..

My car doesn't leak and no real wind noise - and that is with 61,000 miles on it. Some shake, but that is common to convertibles.
I had a 1999 Trans Am and that leaked from the day I got it, even after Pontiac sent it out to a "top specialist" and replaced a lot of parts.
