Roush Shift Knob
Hey guys...I recently ordered the Roush Shift **** for 2005+ from AmericanMuscle.com http://www.americanmuscle.com/roush-2005-retro-****-black.html (but I'm pretty sure you can buy it elsewhere) (I have an 08 GT) and after a while figured out how to remove the stock **** from the shifter and the boot, put the new one on the boot and put it in but I have two questions:
1. I ended up with a leftover nut from the packaging, was this supposed to be used or is it for another application like an aftermarket short throw shifter or something?
2. Most importantly, when the **** is fully tightened, the letters are not aligned (i.e if you look at the ****, the gear layout is tilted WAYYY to the right). Now it might just be the OCD in me, but I really want it to face correctly since I got this item mostly for looks, I want it to look correct. Is there any way I can have the **** fully tightened and still correctly readable?
Thanks a lot!!

when i put mine on it fiddled with it for a good 15 mins.....
i had the same dilemma with the nut, and somehow ended up using it
i thikn i tried about 5 combinations of the nut above or under the leather boot, and with or whithout it on
i somehow found a way to get the nut on and tightenit all the way to face the correct direcction.
just play with it a little, i used a lot of force on it and nothing broke, so im sure itll be ok if you try to force it just a little farther onto those threads

What parts did it come with?
Is the extra nut a jam nut?
I don't have that particular shifter ball, but I would imagine it works the same way as others....meaning.....You thread the jam nut on first, all the way down. Then either slide or thread the chrome sleeve all the way down. Then you screw on the ball as far as it will go. Now, you unscrew the **** just enough to line up the shift pattern emblem. Next, either slide or thread the chrome sleeve upward until it touches the ball. Next, screw the jam nut upward toward the chrome sleeve and tighten. I'm not sure how the leather boot works into the situation, but it should be a fairly simple thing to figure out. Hope this helps.

just use the nut, then put the **** on, and tighten the nut with a wrench against the ****. Thats what I did with mine. I got the exact same roush black ****, and put it on my mgw shifter.
Awesome thanks for the help guys, I'll go try it in a few. So just to clarify things, (not to sound like a totaly moron) the package came with the shift **** (ball), a metal piece with a hole in it and two fat disc things attached to it (the piece that attaches to the shift boot, and a nut. So you guys think the order should be 1. the nut on the shifter, 2. the boot piece and boot, 3. the actual shift ball? And you're saying I take off the boot, slip on the nut, slip on the boot, tighten the ball on, then adjust the nut til its correctly oriented, then re-attach the boot base cover over the shifter?
Sorry if it sounds confusing haha
