Default Hihe RPM Idle when starting engine

Hi guys, I just had a quick question.

Does anyone experience high idle rpm when they start their car up. It does not happen all the time but there are times I dont even need to press the gas to get going (just slowly release the clutch).

I have 4.10 gears with the excaliber II high octane tune. I have tried takeing it out of gear when parked and I still notice this. I was just wondering if there is cause for concern or if anyone else has experienced this.

Thanks in advance.

well how high, an average on a cold day is between 1200 and 1800 due to the amount of gas the car gives the engine to keep running. It does this until your o2 sensor is warmed up and then it lowers the idle should take around 30 seconds to a minute. Hope this helps any other questions please ask.

It sounds normal for the most part but we need more info. How cold was it and is it only on the first start up of the day? after a few minutes of drive time does the car idle like normal? Mine goes up to 2000 RPMs and slowly goes down to 1000 RPMS and when full warm it is a 900 RPMS ...... J

No one will be able to give you a proper answer until you tell us what 'high' is...

Like most have said, it is just you fast idle circuit that aids the warm up. On my garaged GT, it stay at about 1600 then drops to 750 or so within 15 seconds when it is 40* in the garage and the engine is cold.

Assuming under 2000. What if he's idling in the 3-5000 rpm range on startup? Then it's not as simple...

Once again, you need to give more details if you expect any actual help. God forbid he has something stupid like a bad lifter or something and he reads the board and thinks - "hell, idling at 5000 rpm is okay, it's normal"...lol

I would discribe a 5000 rpm idle as extremely high, not just high.It is hard to say what high means to the OP, but we can presume he is talking about the normal fast idle cycle.
