i have the shorty from americanmuscle and hated the wind noise on the interstate.

i just put the stocker back on, but i might cut it myself later.

I went to Autozone, bought a $7 antenna (no wire wrap)and cut it to ~12 in. Expoxied a ball on the end. A little gloss black paint. Looks good and I can still "roll back" to the stocker if ever the need.
I did exactly the same thing except I cut it to about 14". I wasn't sure how my reception would be, but no worries. The shorty antenna has great reception.

that's the one i had. and yes there's a couple of threads on the added wind noise.

it's because it's thicker and not curved to route any wind.

I love mine. I think the 8" is just too short and looks out of place. The 14" flows with the roof nicely and provides a bit better reception.
+1

I put mine on last week. Took about 15 seconds! I still get the Wisconsin station no problem.

If you want something a little different this is a true shorty. I have no problems with reception but I almost never listen to the radio. This is a quality piece made of billet alum with a powdercoated black finish. I got it on an ebay store for about $25. I like it and I'd keep it even if it had poor reception because I like the look.
