Hello everyone, this is my first post in the mustang forums. I hope everyone enjoys and follows this project as we work through it.
"The Transformer Mustang"
~ A true Mach up ~
70' Mach 1 up to a 06 Mustang GT
I have restored many mustangs in my 37 years in the business mostly stock or mild customs. My customer whom I have restored many vehicles for wanted to restore this 1970 Mach 1 that he had purchased but did not want it to drive like a 1970 but to drive and handle like his current 2006. Including all the 06' amenities. There was really only was one answer to this, which would be grafting this Mach 1 to a 06' Gt platform.
Upon inspecting his newly purchased 70' project car, it was noted that it had been in at least 4 serious accidents, parted out, then left to rust and rust and rust..... It had been poorly sectioned in the front and poorly repaired in every accident; in general it was a total mess. The decision was then made to use just the body of the 70' (minus rear 1/4's , trunk, taillight panel, doors, left front fender, floor pan etc.), then to get as new and low miles of a mustang GT V8 as we could, to be the recipient for the Mach 1 body. Months of searching came up with a 2006 Mustang GT V8 5 speed with just 6000 miles. This vehicle was in a serious rolled-over accident damaging all body panels. A perfect donor for the
price.
Much had to be considered, first we wanted to use 100% of the 06' running gear, suspension, wiring, AC, Airbags, ABS, interior, etc. Second and most important we want to keep the look of the 70' body with a few minor changes.
Perfect. The transformation began. This is not for the faint of heart. Check out the pictures. We have video of this project and many more pictures available on our website.

Wow, it looks like it did have a rust problem.
Sounds like a lot of work. How long do you think it will take to complete?
Cool project!

Love the Idea, but I doubt very seriously if this can be pulled off, The simple fact of
the matter is this is a HUGE untertaking, I would not want to be responsible for the safe
operation of this vehicle once completed....But GOOD LUCK, and best wishes!

Haven't you seen the new show with West Coast Customs? They've done this at least twice: Once putting a Chevelle SS body on a new Corvette, and another time putting a 70ish Charger body on a new Charger SRT8. Have faith, it can be done
