Default Ford Revises 8.8 Axle Fill Levels

Sorry if this is a repost. I came across the info that Ford has revised the fill levels for the 8.8 Rear Axle.
The shop manual says fill level should be 1.0-1.125" below the fill hole.

19606 2005 - 2007 MUSTANG 8.8 INCH REAR AXLE - REVISED LUBRICANT FILL LEVEL
2005-2007 MUSTANG GT AND GT500 8.8 INCH REAR AXLE. WHEN PERFORMING ANY SERVICE ON THE 8.8 INCH REAR AXLE, THE LUBRICANT FILL LEVEL SHOULD BE INCREASED TO THE BOTTOM OF THE FILL HOLE WITH THE AXLE AT NORMAL RIDE HEIGHT.
EFFECTIVE DATE: 02/07/2007

Dang ... when I installed the 8.8 rear in my car ... I topped it off to the bottom of the fill hole. I then read the service manual and actually drained some to make it 1 inch below. So know I need to fill it back up again ...

I didn't want to take a chance of overfilling that's why I drained it ... did want oil possibly leaking out the axle seals if filling to the hole was an issue.

Old school way was to fill it till you could put your finger in there to the 1st knuckle then bend finger. If you got any juice on it, it was full enough. I always just pumped away till it came out of the hole, No leaking seals in 40+ years.

What if you have money arms and gorilla hands like me? My pinky finger won't fit that far into fill hole.

Why did they revise it? Is it possible that too low fill level could cause slight gear whine on decel?

whine prolly isnt related to fluids. im getting a "hot" smell from my car, im wondering if this is why.
