The dealer should have the number within aweek. Oncethe order is processed by the factory they send the specs to the dealer with the build dates and shipping dates. If they (the dealer) doesntcheck could be longer.

I ordered my car on 4/9/2005 and got the vin on 6/14/2005. I did not receive the car until 7/28/2005.

Things might be better now. When I ordered my car, allocations were rough and I know a lot of people that didn't even get their cars. They had to reorder a 2006.

i remember the mess. took forever for people to get them.

i think i will call the dealer in 2 weeks, see what they have to say. apparently some cars fly through to the process and others take months.

I didn't get anything, no invoice or VIN number. But my car came in about 7.5 weeks. And that's including Thanksgiving and Christmas.

If you dealt with a reliable person, you sould be able to call them back and have them do some digging for you. That is if it's someone other than a regular sales person that is. You need to speak with some with access to thier ordering system.

I got my 08 VIN in 2 days. My 05 GT Convertible about 6 weeks after I ordered it. there was a big backlog then.

I also built the reporting system at Ford that reports a vehicle order's history. Each dealership has their own allotted number they can sell (because of the high demand) and once they get their order into the system, the plant may not schedule it if their allotment is up, or at least until they get their next allotment.

So depending on the dealership and how many Mustang's they sell a year depends on how many they can order. So the order can be placed an queued up but the VIN does not get assigned until it actually gets scheduled at the plant.

The dealership person who manages the orders should be able to tell you when to expect your VIN. But don't rely on the build date when the VIN first gets established. It could change due to production schedule changes or if there are any options/parts on back order for your particular package. So the more options and features you order makes it more likely that the build date will change. not always but some times.

Another tip to maybe get your car sooner is to find a dealer who has one on order for the dealership and then ask them to put in a change order to match your specs. The vehiclecould come as quickly as 2 - 4 weeks after you order.
