Default Help with gears

Hey everyone. I'm looking to install 4.10 FRPP gears in my automatic 05 gt next week and people are telling me not too cuz u lose a lot of top end. To anyone who has 4.10 gears was it worth the money and is ure top end still good when racing?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I have FRPP 4.10s i absolutely love them, best mod - that and cai+tune.

You will lose some top end but not alot. I still can probably hit 140

But is your car a manual or auto?

Keep in mind that the O.D. ratio in the auto is different than the manual.
O.D. ratio for the auto is 0.71:1
O.D. ratio for the manual is 0.68:1
It's not as "tall" so assuming the same size tires a manual S197 with 4.10s will turn just about the same rpms in 5th as the auto would with 3.90 gears.
It depends on how fast you like to drive on the freeway. Still I wouldn't hesitate to use the 4.10s with the auto. I did some math for you.
Assuming a 27.1" diameter tire and 4.10 gears...
The auto at 2200 rpm you'll be doing 61.11 mph
The manual at 2200 rpm you'll be doing 64.27 mph
You should also consider a higher stall speed converter. It makes a huge difference in your launch.

I havent lanuched at the track or with my sticky tires yet but I dont feel THAT much difference between the 3.55s and 4.10s. I did lose worse to a T/A with the 4.10s than I did with the 3.55s cause I went sideways in first and then second while he was hooking and booking.

But anyways my 4.10s were free (gift), my gear install kit was free (ex-gf gift), and my buddy who is a ford tech installed them for free (he is like my brother basically). $500 job for free eh ill take that

I think it's funny when people say "I will lose a lot of top end." How fast are you looking to go... Seriously, you can either beat someone to the next light or beat someone to the next state. I chose next light and got 4.10's.

I have 4.10's in my auto and love'em. They knocked 4 tenths off my 1/4 mile.
