Default Bouncing rev limiter

Does or could hitting/bouncing the rev limiter do any damage? I accidentally did this once recently in 2nd gear and had a bad smell from the engine area for a while - lasted 5 minutes or so.

Like what mattstang said, if you aren't doing it everyday, you should be fine. Are you a manual? That smell may have been from burning the clutch a little.
