Default Engines

Ok guys I have been doing some thinking and hope some of you may shed some light on this.

The S197 V6 engine is rated at 210 hp. Now they use that same engine in LandRover LR3 and is rated at 216 hp. Now how the hell do they get more power out of that one? Also the Nissan 350Z is a V6 as well, with a 3.5L. how do they manage to get more power out of there engine and we are sitting here with 210?

ya i feel your pain. ive drove a new 350z and it makes me sick how much power that 3.5 has. i feel like we got short changed on the 200hp of the 40s. i think the 40s should be around 300hp and the 46s around 400hp. ford definitley could have squeazed some more power out of these from the factory.its all in the way the internals are designed and the way the engine management system is programmed.

Ford does it for marketing purposes I think. They like keeping the wide range of HP differences between the GT and 4.0 (IMO)

Ford should have stepped up and gave us a 350 hp 4 valve standard on the gt. Mustangs aren't cheap cars. Theres a lot of new v6's making more hp than our 8's.

Your absolutey right, but It would probobly jack up the price of both cars ALOT.

yeah, our v6 only has 210 HP where the 350z has more. Well the 350z costs a goo 10 grand more.

Take that 10k savings and get a turbo. Our v6 isnt too shabby and can take the punishment of fi.

the price you pay compared to a import vs a domestic justifies the horsepower deficit we pay

lexus = 3.5L that puts out 306hp
infinity g35 / nissan 350z that puts out 300+
GM pushrod 3.9L with 240hp
ford 4.0L with 210hp

The 350z puts out 268 ft/lbs and the v6 stang puts out 240 ft/lbs sadly even with .5 of a liter larger engine. lets keep in mind torque is what spins the wheels.

You also have to remember though the 350Z is a lighter car in comparison to the mustang v6 and has 28 ft/lbs more torque so it's 0-60 times and 1/4 mile times are going to be faster and it will handle better as well with its 49:51 weight distribution across all four tires.

The 350Z also has 4 valves a cylinder which flows ALOT better than the mustangs 2 valves per cylinder and also the v6 mustang has a compression ratio of 9.7:1 vs the 350Z compression ratio of 10.6:1 so it is very easy to see why the Z is putting up better numbers than the v6 mustang.
somone please correct me if im wrong.

The V6 Mustang is the quickest car UNDER $20,000!!(Car&Driver). My God there's a 4 cyl. out there with over240 HP in a Dodge Caliber, SO WHAT!!! The 350Z is also at least $10,000 more. Manufactures have been using the same engines in different cars/body's with DIFFERENT HP ratings for years. I.E.= 375 hp,396 in Chevelle,425 hp,396 in Corvette,1966, the same engine! Plus,I don't want any of those other car's,I wanted a Mustang and that's what I bought.Be happy with what you have.

Actually.... Ford is perfectly in line with other car makers, just selling things cheaper.

The V6's engine, like said above, is the fastest car under $20K.
The GT's V8 is slower than the Corvette's and the SRT-8 - and it costs $20-$30K cheaper.
The GT500's V8 is comparible to the SRT8 and 'Vette V8s, and it costs around the same as the SRT-8s (but a lot cooler) and costs abit cheaper than the z06 'vette.

So basically Ford is price beating everyone with their cars and engines..... Theres nothing to complain about.
