So, talked to the body shop today. They quoted me $500 even for 2 10" black racing stripes that would cover the hood, front/back bumper, spoiler, etc. They would also do 2 black rocker stripes down the side of the car that would say Mustang.

I think I might just do the racing stripes for now, which he said he would do for $350. Sounds pretty reasonable for me.

You guys think $350 for the racing stripes is a good deal? This is for paint, not vinyl.

Well, I'm sure you could, but I don't think I'd really want black stripes on a black top.

I'd be painting just the hood, front bumper, back bumper, trunk, and spoiler.

Wow that sounds like a low price. I haven't done enough checking, but I would have thought it would be quite a bit higher. Especially when you start talking getting the bumpers painted. All the prep work and then clearcoating over it....But maybe its just me.

That does sound extremely low - I am thinking it should be closer to 1500 painted. Make sure they are doing a clear coat over the stripes. You can barely get vinyl for that price.

See, I thought $350 sounded pretty low as well. He told me he does the striping for the local Ford dealership as well, which I thought was a little weird. Wouldn't a major Ford dealer get their striping done themselves?

I think my local dealer actually brings cars offsite for striping, just so happens the owner of the dealership owns the paint shop as well [&:]

If I were you I would get a second quote if possible - are you positive that wasn't the quote for vinyl?

paint places that do really cheap work use really cheap paint.

Well, the body shop I went too said he had a seperate guy for vinyl. The vinyl guy quoted him and me $850 for the vinyl. The body shop guy said that was outrageous and told me he'd do the paint for $350.
