Not sure how it works in your state, in Florida, insurance companies are required to replace/repair windshields with NO deductibles.

They repair them for free here if you can cover the damage with a dollar bill. If it is bigger and you don't have glass breakage, it's on your dime.

Around here, they use these cinders left over from the gold rush days. They are what's left after the smelting process. I put in a new windsheild about once a year. The $50 ded comes with the GEICO mechanical breakdown coverage which carries a $250 ded. no matter what goes wrong. It really only pays for itself if something in the drivetrain goes south. All other repairs are typically around 3-500 bucks. I can handle $250. It is the $2500 for a tranny that would make me cry mama.

If you lived in Florida the glass would be replaced for free. Unless the hood is really bad, i wouldn't bother claiming it. Post a pic.

On a side note, for those of you that have to pay out of pocket for a new windshield, use an aftermarket company.
It will be cheaper and the product is still made by PPG, like the OEM one.

RE: New Windshield
I'm on my second replacement in less than two years! The first was hit by a flying stone and placed a large silver dollar sized ding directly in my field of vision. That was in September of 2006, 6 months after I bought the car. The second time was this past December when a large sheet of ice/snow flew off an Explorer and smashed into my windshield, splintering it the entire width! It was at night while I was coming home from work on the Garden State Parkway. I chased the guy down (that damned Hungarian temper of mine![:@]) and got him to pull over. I called the state police, but all they could do was fill out an accident report. No summons is issued unless someone is injured!! I had the windshield replaced the next day under my 200 dollar deductable. Turned out that the guy had the same insurance company as me. My insurance company called me and is sending me a check to reimburse me for the deductable, charging the accident to the other party. The original windshield for these cars, with the Mustang Stallion is $398.00 installed around these parts, by the way.
There have been people killed by 'flying ice' hitting their windshields, so I consider myself lucky. The television station I work for did a report a few days later on the problem of people not cleaning their vehicles off after a snow or ice storm, and found that the problem of damage or injuries caused by flying ice is extremely common.
What's ironic is that in the 36 years and hundreds of thousands of miles I drove my 70 Chevelle, I NEVER had to replace a windshield due to an object striking it. This car seems to be a magnet for objects hitting the windshield. []

Same here - I used to drive a Jeep Wrangler that had a no "slant" on thewidshield and had it repaired 3 times (over 11 years) for free in Florida. There are companies that actually came out to my house and did it. Need to make sure they use OEM parts though.
Good luck.
Good luck.
