My stock shifter squeaked a little. I figured it was the rubber boot rubbing against something. It went away.

Mine creaks and squeaks when it's cold.

Its the inside of the rubber boot under the leather boot.
The rubber boot rubs up against itself and squeeks
Some rubber lube will prevent this from happening.
Remove the shifter **** with a twisting motion.
Remove the trim holding the leather boot in place
by sliding it to the rear and lifting carefully.
Now you have access to the rubber boot sealing the
passengers compartment from the underside of the
stang. Apply rubberlubricant to the areas that are
rubbing together. You might even notice the rubber
dust that has formed under the shifter console.
This is indication that your rubber weatherboot has
been rubbing and squeeking.

Thanks! I'm going to try that.
