I use 6.5 to fill to the tip top of the fill mark, and i let it drain for a long time.
Check walmart for the 5qt jugs. Its the price of buying 4qt's and getting one free

6 quarts but have an extra on-hand to top it off, just in case. On occasion (usually depending on how long I let it drain and/or from using a filter with a tad more capacity) I have to add maybe 1/4 quart or so.

6 qts will bring it up to the top of the xxxxxxx mark. I have found the level of oil in the jugs to differ from one jug to the other. I always measure the oil and don't trust the jugs because no 2 are alike. Line a few up side by side, you will see the difference.

We're talking oz's in difference at most, hardly a factor.
All I can recommend is check the level after 6qts is put in, and the car ran for a minute, and turned off for a few minutes at least, then check level.

OK OK - 4.6L - it was very late last night for heaven's sake! 
I deserve it though - love you all!
Just had it done - used 6 quarts of Mobil 1 full synthetic (gray container) - paid $5.95/per at Auto Zone. My 3rd oil change at 4032 miles (2006 GT 5-speed - bought 10/06)

That said their are sometimes TSB's that call for either extra oil for track use (if draining the pan is an issue) or less oil (if foaming is an issue).
