I though about the V8 driveline but you'll still have to replace the Dshaft (1piece).
The GT rear is not enough money saved to forget aboutthe V6.
In my case, I rather find a wrecked sixer so it's dirt cheap, because I'll replace bumpers, hood andwheels anyway.
I'm thinking a $5/7K wrecked car and go to town on it.

Hey guys,
This will be more of a show car than anything, going to shows, so do you think I could get away with a baseline 302 with 260hp and keep the rear end without posi?
Any classic motor with a carbuerated setup is more what I'm going for, because it completely unlocks the realm of browsing through JEGS and being able to order and use everything on there for dressup.
Theres only 1 chrome valvecover option from ford for the s197s and its almost $1000!! JEGS has great chrome kits for 302s, 351s, etc.. for upwards of $50... You know what I'm talking about.
Thanks

errrr .... you shouldnt narrow your buying list only to jegs ... theres a TON of other better places imo. For a show car i'd go with a stroked 5.4 with a BIG TS blower in top of it something like that. Something that belongs to the S197 theme and taking it to the extreme .... And the S197 chromed valve covers are 400 bucks at most. even more cheapif you chrome your stockers
IMO chromed cars are very way over done and nothing new in the business, atleast for me I wouldnt be amazed for a chromed engine showcar no matter how good it is [&:]
Good luck with the project.!

Well, the problem with that is that the driveshaft from the GT will have to be changed if you change trannys, which you'll probably have to do. And based on how much power you output, you'll have to changed the rearend out also... So most of the benefits on the GT would be lost.
Still doesnt matter, you dont save that much money getting a V6.
If you have 40-60K for this.... Id definately get a builtup engine like the 5.0 cammer and get 420hp out of the box, and add FI on top of that.
There are some sick S197s out there, research what setups they have.

Hey guys, I'd seen that video before - nice huh! Well I'd love nothing more than to buy a V6 but I thought it'd be less expensive to buy a V8 since it already has a posi rear end, good driveshaft, etc..
I'll try to seek info from that guy on youtube. I have a 40-60k budget on this one.
So v6 is the way to go for this?

For 15K that engine costs .... i'd rather get a GT500 one.

Also, Coast High Performance have a good selection.
The FRPP B303 (manual) long block with intake and serpentine belt set-up is good for about 300hp (crank)and runs about $3800.
If you're looking for conservative power, it's a good choice.

The 460 big block is much heavier than the stroked 351.
I would definitly go with the latter.
