Straight Pipes & Headers

Straight Pipes & Headers
I know that not everyone can do this... I am originally from Cali and it sucks to own a muscle car there... thank goodness that all my cars I owned when I lived there were all old and werent as regulated...
I have no mufflers on my F-150 and it produces the best sound I have heard yet. A while back I was talking to the guy at the muffler shop here in town (that does the most excellent work ever!!) and he just happened to have a Mineral Grey GT on the lift while I was there.. I though what a coinicidence... And the owner was getting his mufflers cut off. Dude fired up the GT for me to hear and I about crapped myself when I heard it ROAR!
Now to the point of this post... Is there anyone out there running straight pipes with a header config? What are you running? Cost of the headers? and how does it sound?

from what I undertand the short tubes make you rev faster and long tubes make you rev more into the red???

And also I have seen some of these that are Ceramic Coated on the inside with claims that they make the sound louder... can this be true?
I understand they will last, no rust etc.. but make it louder? Hmm... and do mandrel bent tubes REALLY make any difference?

RE: Straight Pipes & Headers
Exhaust tuning is complicated stuff but for the most part shorty headers favor the top end and the long tubes produce torque at lower rpm. mandrel bends do make a diff, ceramic coated exhaust is not going to be any louder the coating is to insulate heat and keep it out of the engine bay.

RE: Straight Pipes & Headers
Short tube headers are simply an improvement in diameter and air flow over the stock exhaust manifold to produce more power. Long tubes while having the same advantage also have an eaqual length per tube. As the cylinders fire in sequence it takes more time for the first one to fire and reach the collector at the end of the manifold than the last wich is why the tube for the first cylinder is the longest. This causes pressure to pull the gasses out of the rest of the cylinders after th first one has fired equalling more power.
if you don't intend to lower your car go with the long tubes, if you have sespension mods in mind, go with the shorties. Stick with ceramic coated, they last longer.
