3:55 or 3:73?

RE: 3:55 or 3:73?
The question is not really clear.....However, the 4.10's aren't really suited for long range interstate driving, whereas the 3.73's are more highway friendly. The 4.10's will take off a little faster than the 3.73's, but on wet pavement the 4.10's can tend to be a little tricky, if you're not careful. Both will improve your performance. Another thing to consider is....

You'll be faster in the 1/4 mile but not in the mile. You'll use more gas. Bout it.

I disagree if you raced me at the dragstrip you would lose. If ywe both took off from a stop I would have covered so much ground in the milethat you would be nothing but a blimp on a rear view mirror.

The point is that short races benefit short gears, like 4.10, much more heavily, especially a quick 0-60mph racebut things change towards the upper end dramatically.

I'm up in the air, but leaning toward the 3:73, there are 3:11 installed now. The Ford dealership said they would install OEM gears, and warrenty all the work, and any problems which may occur at the tune of $1100. That sounds very high to me, any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

LOL. 4.10s mean you accelerate quicker, but have less top speed in all gears. It also means you have to go into the slower, taller gears much earlier. And it doesnt matter if you have 4.10s when you've hit4th gear and the guy with 3.55s is pulling up because he still has 4000rpms left to run through in the much faster 3rd gear.

As for top end. I've personally been 176mph with 4.30s, and still had some RPM left. The car is geared for well over 200mph with the stock (now optional) 3.55s, and the only reason the car doesn't include 4.10s from the factory is gas mileage.
