Default Std Radio, external power when turned on?

I'm still considering adding a power antenna (auto up when radio turned on, auto down when radio turned off) To have this feature I would need to locate a lead that gets power when the unit is powered on (and disconnects when unit shut off). I thought someone out here had identified this but I'll be darned if I can find that post or that I had saved this info. Not sure if Shaker is the same but I would prefer if someone who is familiar with the std radio could identify the lead if there is one. I could try to locate it but that looks to be a lot of trial and error in what is in a rather confined space. Thanks in advance to anyone who can claify this for me.

I'll get pics of the std radio wiring and post them later today.

Hey 157db thanks so much for getting this info for me. As best as I can read the diagrams it looks like they are for the Shaker units (I have the std radio) but in any event do you see any output that would be live when the radio is turned on and then not, when the radio is turned off. The radio lighting is an example of this but that would be an internal circuit. Maybe I will have to tap into an internal circuit but I'd hate to go there. I'm handy but I don't have a lot of experience with electrical especially with sound systems. Maybe you can take a close look at the diagrams and see if there is a "power on" lead there (I didn't see one but it's not that easy for me to read the diagram) Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated. Thanks again!

Hi Fairlane,

I don't know if this will help. It may be that the power connector on the radio might be the same:

pin 2 on the J1 connecor supplies power only when the radio is on. I tapped into the wire that connects to this pin for my amplified internal antenna.

Hey Odiaz, that may well be it (std radio possibly different but I can test it) btw, do you recall the wire color that you tappped into. From what you said, your amp antenna only comes on when you power on the radio, right?

Once again, thanks for your help!!

I couldn't find one because I wanted to hook my amp turn on lead to it. I ended up settling for a switched power so when the car is on the amp is on even if the radio isn't. I installed a switch to turn off the amp manually. If you end up finding one, plz pm me.

That was for the Shaker 500 but I don't imagine it being different for the std one.

At least it's nice to see someone looking for the same thing. Odaiz may have the answer. I won't get a chance to see if I can test this for a week or so and I'm going to see what Odaiz says about the wire color... might just make my search that much easier. I'll definitely let you know what I find!

Cool, I see it in your schematic. Thanks so much. I suspect there may be a difference with the std radio (no powered subs) but it may still have a similar config. Sure appreciate your efforts to help me out with this!!!
