Finishing what Ford Forgot
I just finished the rear panels in my convertible. I had been wanting to do them ever since I first got the car. Thanks to MTAS for being the pioneer and writing up the instructions, I finally got around to doing it on my own. It's a lot more difficult on a convertible because of the rear spekers. I took it to several upholstery shops and no one would touch it for less then $600 and their idea was to simply punch holes over the speaker area but they could not guarantee that the holesin the material would line up with the holes on the panels.
Finally, I decided to do it myself. At first I thought about just covering up the speaker area and seeing how it affected the sound. In all reality, I probably could have gotten away with that but it did muffle the sound a bit. Finally, I took the panels off and drilled the holes out with a dremmel. It was the only way to make sure that the holes on the material lined up with the speaker holes and would not affect the sound quality. On some of the holes, you could se the white outline of the material inside the hole. I fixed this by using a red sharpie marker and coloring the inside of the holes red. This was an extremely time consuming project.
I still haven't cleaned the interior after the install. There is a little bit of glue marks and other marks on the black plastic. I can't wait for Spring so I can take her out and give her a thorough cleaning.
