I was going to start an inquiry post about this same subject when I stumbled across this one....so I like the tci streetfighter ratchet shifter but have 2 ask.....WHERE THE HELL IS IT.....why is it taking so long to release this thing...I understand R&D..but come on...lets see this thing already...I did google it and found some obscure internet company selling them for 475...but never heard of the place...anyways , does anyone know who will sell them and when...I thought I read it was spring/summer08 b4 we would see them..bring the shifter out already...jeesh...LOL

great question brendend...

also, would someone clarify the functionality of this item in regards to the auto tranny?....

what does it mean to get "hung" between gears and would the TCi shifter give you the option tp either speedshift or just leave it in D or does it only allow speedshifting?

call me a noob if u want lol but i need to know these things!

What the TCI ratchet shifter does is gives you positive shift in betwwen gears with no chance of skipping into another gear. If you manual shift your automatic it shift's very smoothly,Almost to smoothly causing you to shift from 1st to 3rd or 2nd to drive which sucks when your at the track and trying to stretch a couple rpm's out.Plus it's a nice appearance. (If I wanted a Manual shifter I would of bought one.Why put a leather boot on it?)

ORIGINAL: samv1368

They said they would be out for the v8 and v6 by the end of this month.
Is anybody sure of this, and or have an idea of how much it may be?
I do like the TCI ratchet shifter a lot more than the B&M. Me personally
wouldn't want one with a boot because I don't wanna look like I'm hiding
the fact I have an automatic.....which is why i really like the TCI because
it still looks like an automatic but still looks A LOT better than the stock shifter.
Just my input.
But if anyone can send any info this way itd be greatly appreciated.....

Jegs $459.99 / way too much money for a shifter. No way am I going to spend that much on that shifter. It's nice but not that nice. As many Mustangs as there are out there now there will be other shifters made for them. That price will have to come down substantially before I'll consider changing over. A good many of us can do this mod ourselves but there are others who either don't know how or don't have the tools or facilities available to do this. They're at the mercy of others. This could quickly turn into a 700-800 $$$$$$ proposition. Not worth it IMHO.

First of all. that shifter is completely gawdy looking. Secondly, they cant make it work after a year?
How could you say it is a performance upgrade when nobody has evenused one?
I think the brushed aluminum stock shifter look way nicer than that oversized, blingy aircraft throttle that has a giant TCI logo on it.
But you go get in line to plunk down 459.00 for it and let us know how it works.

The key is what you use to release the slack/ take it out of ratchet mode. I'll try to explain as I had
a B&M star shifter back in the day.Once you put the shifter into 1st, you can slam it into 2nd, then
3rd, then D and that's it. You can NOT put it into N,R or P unless you pull up the "key looking thing"
and move the shifter forward until it clicks or stops, release the "key thingy". That puts the shifter
into "normal" mode. This is of course if it operates like the star shifter..pretty sure it does.

Isn't manually shifting your automatic bad for the transmission?
