We don't really have frames in the traditional sense so don't go by that. Our subframes and member can be cut out and replaced. That said, say your car retailed for 20K. If the repairs amount to 15K, kiss it goodbye.

Glad nothing bad happened to you.

Your car might be totaled if the frame rails are bent... If not, it's still border line.
If the car is totaled, you'll be in a Mustang quicker than going through the process of fixing that one.

Your car will be absolutely totaled even if the frame is OK because the cost to repair it will be very high. On 2-11-08 I was hit at the rear and was damaged like your read did. It cost over $8,000. Of course, insurance paid. After the cost of repair is estimated, you can buy the car back and repair it.

Wow, sorry to read this. You definately had an awesome car. Shame to see what happened to it. But like others said, at least your ok.In the end, thats what is most important. If you were gonna replace the transmission anyway, I'm not sure if they do total it I would buy it back. Why not just get another WITH a manual this time?

I gotta admit, this bothers me another way as well....my mustang is in storage atm and I was considering doing the same thing: getting it out for a few days since there seemed to be a break in the weather. Gotta admit, I'm glad I didnt now. Sorry I had to learn that lesson at your expense.

So glad that you're ok.

On the plus side (however little it may be), at least you're in prime position to bargain for a new 'vert at under invoice with it still being winter and mustang sales declining. You should be able to get it for at least $1500 under invoice; add to that your savings for not getting an automatic (since you said you were switching to manual anyhow), and hopefully everything will turn out allright.
