Just watch out for the Crush washer that come with the kit. They did not hold my shifter and the handle fell off while driving due to the force needed to shift. I had the car towed into the dealer that installed the shifter and they ordered the parts from the Shelby GT to fix. All is fine now except that the metal to metal is very noisy with vibrations. I think I will go back to stock in the next couple of weeks.

The Hurst is supposed to be a bit "notchy". What you gain is a shorter throw and a confident 2-3 shift at speed (especially important at the dragstrip). At the track I ram it into gear like I'm stealing the car, and the shifter handles the abuse just fine.

Couple things to think about:

1. The two bolts/nuts that hold the handle on have a tendency to loosen up with heavy use--some loctite can't hurt.
2. The Hurst shifter linkage has a tendency to scrape into certain brand driveshaft loops (BMR in my case) when shifting at high speed (due to twist in the drivetrain) and you may need to put a few shims at the mounting point to push the loop a 1/4 inch towards the rear of the car.

If you used Loktite with lock washers you wouldn't have that problem.

Mine will never come loose. The harder I pull, the faster it shifts.

I disagree with saying the shifter breaks-in... If you look at the design, there is nothing at all on it that can even break-in. At all. You can argue that a short shifter causes a slightly different and more intensestress on the tranny, so the tranny will break-in a little more than it did with stock and become looser to accept the movement of the short shifter better. I'll buy that, maybe. But the shifter does not break-in.

Yep. I bought some different lock washers and both of mine are doing fine, now. I was going to put loctite on, but it wasn't needed after the good lock washers.

yep, I remember my shift handle coming loose during my road test after installing the shifter. I cranked the holy hell out of the bolts afterwards and I think I threw in some locktite for good measure. I tightened em like I was tryin to break em.

But yes you'll get used to it and afterwards nothing will measure up, for example I test drove an ls1 fbody with the factory hurst and rowing the gears was like tossing a hotdog down a hallway.

Over time, the BUSHINGS, in the Hurst short throw shifter, will loosen up some.
