Default Tires to fill wheel well - Any advice?

I currently have stock 17" wheels, 235/55-17 tires on my car and am ~ lowered 1".

Am looking at 18" wheels, 255/45-18 tires for replacements.
I'm guesstimating that this set up will add 1/2" to my overall tire diameter?
Is this enough to fill the wheel well?

I don't want a rim larger than 18" cause my bony *** will be hurting on these New England roads. [&:]
I prefer comfort overall, so the thicker the tire the better?
I'm looking at the Goodyear Eagle ResponseEdge and American Muscle Rogue:

I cant comment on the fender coverage with 18s but I did want to tell you that black rim is going to look so bad *** on your red!!! Are you going to run a DD in the rear?

are you still runnin stock shocks/struts? switchin those out will significantly improve your ride feel, and then you wouldn't have to worry about >18" rims.

Thanks! I think the black will really set off my black accents and the black top.
No deep dish. Need to be a bit practical and be alble to rotate the tires. [8D]

Hey Margarita, I went out and purchased the Rogue's based off your advice last week. I'll be getting them put on my Torch Red vert in an hour, so I'll let you know how they look!

The 255/45 -18 tires and wheels will not fill your wheel wells any more than now. As implied above, the total tire height will be exactly the same. This is fine as you won't have to adjust your speedo.

For a little more grip, you could also go with 285/40's. These too will have the same tire height and the same sidewall thickness as the 255/45's but they can be quite expensive in that size.

I am running 255/45's-18 all around, and we have the same springs, so your fender gaps and sidewall thickness will look identical to mine. You will notice a harsher ride, but not by much and not enough to be bothersome IMO.

If you're set on the 255/45 size, try to stick to a 9" rim, as the tire will stick out beyond the rim edge enough to help prevent rim injury from curbs and such.

How about the P235/55R-18? Will these fit?
