Ok, well now if you end up getting it off, you have to come back and update this if it is something weird or was just on there good.

There is. You loosen the bolt, spread the thing apart if you can and yank it off. It isn't rocket science.

Try grabbing it and rotating it... If it won't rotate and is that stuck, they make a little ittty bitty puller just for battery terminals when they're stuck... Everyone will tell you to try pulling up with a screwdriver or w/e but you stand a chance of damaging your battery doing that... If its that stuck that it wont just pull up, buy a terminal puller.. they're less than $10.... Everyone may laugh but you can actually do damage to a battery by breaking the link between the post and the plates if you start prying with anything else... If you're still having problems, post a pic of your battery.... As simple and silly as it may seem, maybe someone will see something you're missing... Beyond that, if you can't get the cable free I'd try going to the dealer or any other shop and asking them to check it out for you...

but I don't wanna be the "change my battery for me, and also armorall my dash because I'm lazy" guy
I wondered who actually used that armorall crud.
Its more or less just a dust attractor and requires
you to use it constantly cus it looksbad when it
dries up requiring you to put even more on.And the
cycle continues.

ORIGINAL: Joolander

i did that, I'm just trying to clean the terminals because the positive one is corroded enough to look like it has brigh blue-green moss on it, and i want to clean it thoroughly
Actually you always remove the negative terminal first
because the body is negative and if the wrench touches
the body it wont short out the battery. If you remove the
positive terminal first, the wrench has a chance to touch
the grounded boby and short out the battery. Also remove
any rings while working on batteries. They get red hot when
they complete the circuit.

Joolander,

I'm having the same problem on my '06. Went to start it tonight and just solinoid rattle. Checked the battery and sure enough, corrosion up the @$$. I'm of a like mind--clean it well and grease it up to prevent again. I'm about half-way to getting it off, here's what I've found. On the left (driver's side) of the terminal there is a vertical stud with a hex nut on it. When you pull the nut, there are what appears to be two wedges over the stud that compress the clamp when you tighten the nut. Now, with some prying, I got the top wedge off, but I can't tell if the bottom wedge is supposed to come off as well. I've been muscling it, but I'm afraid I'm gonna break something. I'm going to wait until morning to try again so I can see better.

Maybe you'll have more luck. Let me know what you find.

thanks d_man, yeah, thats about as far as i got. to me it looks like theres a locking mechanism on the passenger side of the termina keeping it there that has something to do with those wedges

oh, and 157db, if you read, you'd see that I did remove the negative terminal first

I was not trying to point out that you didnt, just warning the other readers
about the need to remove the negative terminal first, then the positive and why.
Always on the defensive....

So, I went back out this morning and decided I was sick of screwing with this and got tough. With the top wedge off, I got my channel-locks and grabbed the clamp and twisted it around the post and it broke loose. I guess the top wedge cinches it down enough to bind it up. I got it cleaned up and greased everything so this hopefully won't happen again (for a while). Definitely something I'm going to keep an eye on though.
